How to Get Your Beer or Wine Tasted
“Mug-chugging college kids always arrive in droves to any event where beer is a headliner, and an increase in craft connoisseurs means highbrow drinkers can be expected, too. Not surprisingly, this was a sold out affair,” Co-organizers Theo Peck and Nick Suarez of The Brooklyn Beer Experiment. Just like indie bands playing at their first gig, The Brooklyn Beer Experiment was an indie beer showcase for new brewers and their products.
If you have a good brew, you don’t have to be the only one enjoying it out of the comfort of your own home. You don’t have to read books about beer distribution to learn the trade and get bars to pick up your brand. Try a beer tasting and get your brew listed on the list of beers being showcased that evening.
Make a label with your computer and color printer. Make a shirt or two with the local printer in town. But, don’t take yourself too seriously. It’s a fun event that will have people tasting your beers and throwing out business cards. Of course, you will have your college kids showing up just for a taste. But, that goes a long way too. If they like your beer, they will definitely inquire about how they can get more.
The thing is that a beer tasting event isn’t new. But, it might not be in your town. So, the one thing you can do to take care of that situation is to start rubbing elbows with other beer brewers and see if they would like to throw one just among yourselves. Invite all your friends and you’ve got a hit.
When word of mouth starts circling, you don’t know how many people will show. Just make sure you have enough for everyone. Wouldn’t want to miss out on giving your beer to the big fish.
